New clients often ask me “Can I run 5 miles instead of walking 10k steps per day?”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The obvious reason for that question is because running saves you time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The mainstream advice often pushes running to burn more calories.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And it’s true, running does burn more calories than walking.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And it also does it in about half the time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So therefore you should lose the weight faster, right?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Wrong!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because of the law of 2nd and 3rd order consequences.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
On the surface it makes a lot of sense why running seems the better choice than walking to lose weight.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
More calories in less time sounds like a good trade, doesn’t it?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yet when we look at the 2nd order consequence it’s clear why running isn’t the best choice long-term.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have you ever seen a guy doing hard cardio and smashing himself?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe even running on empty stomach?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You know what happens … you get VERY hungry.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You want to eat.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And you don’t just eat, but you OVEREAT.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now what?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
All the extra calories you burned by running went straight back to your waistline.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a catch 22.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And it doesn’t stop there.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Running when you’re overweight increased the odds of knee injuries and knee pain.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When that happens, forget about working out your lower body and even going for a walk.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now you need to lay down and sit.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This burns less calories at rest.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And the waistline gets even bigger.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Can you see how walking is superior than running and other forms of cardio for fat loss?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Its ultimately why walking is a key piece of the Kinetic Method.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Walking fits into one of the core values of the Kinetic Method which is feeling satiated all the time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve designed a system that optimizes and allows a lower caloric environment over a long period of time without feeling hungry by manipulating a few things.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And walking is one of those things.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Along a few other things such as blood sugar optimization, recovery, workout frequency and intensity and macro breakdown.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This allows men in their 40’s and 50’s and even 60’s to see consistent progress with predictability.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And that predictability gives them certainty that they will never regress to their old self, AS LONG as they keep doing the daily work.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You could run around and waste years figuring it all out on your own … or you can be smart and walk through a proven system.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Choice is yours.
