Last night I watched an interview of Dorian Yates with Mike Thurston

Dorian said he got blood work done and saw he had a big vitamin D deficiency, despite living in Marbella.

I’ve lived there myself for 2 years and you get to enjoy 320 days of sun a year.

He’d never thought that both him and his wife were Vitamin D deficient since they spend hours every day outside.

After reviewing over 900 blood reports there’s 3 common reasons why someone is Vitamin D deficient despite being in the sun every day.

1) Magnesium deficiency

Magnesium is necessary for your body to activate Vitamin D.

The enzymes that metabolize Vitamin D require magnesium.

You could be spending hours every day at the sun, but if you’re magnesium deficient you won’t get much vitamin D.

Magnesium is one of those nutrients that you hardly get from diet, so it makes a lot of sense to supplement with it.

The most bioavailable form is Magnesium Glycinate.

2) Suncream usage

If Dorian puts on suncream every time he goes out, then he may be Vitamin D deficient.

Because suncream lowers Vitamin D production.

Knowing Dorian, I highly doubt he does that.

I also don’t think he’s Magnesium deficient, since as a former pro he’s probably got that one covered.

Which brings us to our last point.

3) Sun Angle

In order for the sun to stimulate your Vitamin D production, the sun needs to be at a minimum of about 35 degrees or more.

As the sun climbs, the rate of Vitamin D generation goes up until it hits solar noon which is the top position.

Then the sun goes down in the afternoon.

When it reaches the 35 degree angle, Vitamin D production stops again.

Your best chance to get Vitamin D is therefore in the middle of the day.

It also depends on the altitude you live in, your skin type and how much clothes you’re wearing.

I had the exact same issue.

I used to get sun between 8-10am and 4-6pm.

During that time the sun was never at 35 degrees or higher.

So even though I was outside for 1-2h daily without a shirt on, my Vitamin D levels were only 30-40 ng/mL.

Plus the darker your skin is, the longer you need to be exposed to the sun to get Vitamin D.

Therefore the tan I was getting while being outside all the time, contributed even more to the deficiency.

That’s why you want to get in the right blood work regularly.

I’ve had many clients who live in California and Florida look at me shocked when they saw how deficient they were in Vitamin D.

You may think you’re fine and everything is normal …

But when you look under the hood, there’s always something that can be improved for optimal health and longevity.

This also allows you to catch things like an enlargement of your prostate 5-10 years prior to it becoming a problem.

It leaves you with enough time to address a small issue without stress compared to when it’s too late.

It’s a shift in perspective.

Rather than running to the doc when you’re sick, you take a preventive approach to your health.

It’s not for the 99% of people out there, but for the 1% who want to be at their peak health, performance and body
