What Should You Do If You’re Skinny Fat?
About 10% of the clients we work with are skinny fat.
This means they have skinny arms, skinny legs, no chest, shoulders and back ..
But they have a belly.
It’s not big, but it’s soft with love handles and lower back fat.
The real issue with being skinny fat is that most guys think they are perfectly healthy, when they are not.
After reviewing many blood reports from skinny fat guys, their blood markers are as bad as an obese man.
You never think so.
But because they have a low muscle to fat ratio their metabolic health suffers.
That’s because muscle mass clears glucose from your blood.
So even if you don’t look fat, you may still be prediabetic, insulin resistant, have a fatty liver, high blood pressure and low testosterone.
It’s a death by 1000 cuts.
The big mistake most guys who are skinny fat do is that they do an aggressive cut first.
That will just make you even skinner due to further loss of muscle mass.
Let’s not forget that skinny fat is caused by a lack of muscle mass combined with average-to-slightly-above-average body fat.
Instead of focusing on being less fat, focus on being less skinny by increasing your muscle mass.
You should still cut, but in a much less aggressive fashion and focus all your efforts on maximizing muscle mass.
As you increase your muscle mass through strength training your metabolic health will improve.
You’ll burn more calories at rest and you’ll start to increase your muscle to fat ratio.
Your muscle mass will be the path for you to optimize your health while looking great.
